Sean, decent idea here. Allow me to offer my $0.02.
Opening up such a huge marketplace, I feel, would be ultimately confusing. If someone is going to take the time to post something on the internet for a broker to sell - they could have just as easily listed their product on craigslist or eBay and sold it themself.
I think this idea would work a whole lot better as a brick-and-mortar type business instead of an online marketplace. Using a website and social media to engage with your community and potential customer base will almost guarantee you business. A brick-and-mortar type business offers customers something a bit more valuable - time savings. If all they have to do is drop their unwanted stuff off with you, you will probably make bank - because it is easy work for you, but hands off and even easier for the customer.
Thanks Ethan,
I understand what you are saying. I have struggled with making it an easy concept for people to understand. I like the idea of having a brick and mortar store, however that changes the vision of the company. I ultimately would be creating a new site that has the same idea of e-bay, craigslist and other similar sites. From the sellers point of view it would be a rather simplistic process. The benefit of posting on this website is that it would increase traffic to the site by paying out "commissions" for peoples word of mouth. The brokers are everyday people that are browsing the site, if they sell the product through word of mouth they get paid the commission setup by the seller. (could be % or a straight forward bottom line dollar amount)
I came up with this concept because i know the power of word of mouth, or direct selling. I know there are a lot of network marketing companies out there that people get sucked into and will make little to no money. This is a hybrid concept that would allow people to come up with almost a home based business by selling products by word of mouth.
tracking would be done through e-mail.
Im in the research phase of the company and working on getting a site that would be easy to use for everyone.
