Hey Jessica, all around good experiences with GoDaddy. They do try to upsell you a lot of stuff, but their customer support is great, call them anytime you want! Def. go for it. Someone with more tech knowledge on hosting might be better to talk to about that...
Godaddy is great just ignore all the other crap they try to sell you as you finalize your order. I own a bunch of domain names and I have no reason to use anything but godaddy.
Hi Jessica, I agree with Matt and Jared. Don't buy anything you don't need other than the domain name. Depending on what you want to do with it, you can always upgrade the services later on. If it's for blogging, you might want to look into upgrading to a hosting account. Wordpress is a free blogging software that is easy to install, setup and use right away. Good luck!
I have also had great experience using GoDaddy. However, some companies offer free domains if you sign up with their web-hosting service (for example, Yahoo!) - this would only be necessary if you needed their services for building your website.
If you have the skill set or will be hiring out someone to build your website, then GoDaddy is most likely your best bet.
Well, since everyone is in love with GoDaddy, I will go in a different direction. We use Name Secure to purchase our domain names and it seems to work out pretty well. I cant imagine the experience to that different on any of the major sites.
I'll throw in my vote for GoDaddy - I have nearly 40 domains with them. Like Jared said, ignore all the other crap they try to sell you, but when it really comes down to it, they're cheap, their site makes it easy to manage your domains, and if you need help, their customer service staff has always been pretty solid.
Thank you everyone! I'm trying to iron out the details. I think I'm planning on designing the website and structure, before I purchase it - therefore spending less money :)
You all made me smile with how quick you've responded! Now I know who to contact when I have other questions! :)
I personally like Name.com - especially because they have a domain name happy hour every day, during which domain names are a few dollars less than they would normally be. In terms of UI, I also find Name.com easier to use.
